Laurent Koppitz and Aude Nassieu Maupas, founding directors of 'L'Art à Part', a Parisian-based company specializing in editorial production have been established in the Balkans for several years. In 2006 they decided to rekindle the studios of the Macedonian National Radio in order to revive production and recording activities in Skopje. The Macedonian Radio and Television building was constructed in the early '80s and is home to five world-class recording studios later nicknamed the “Balkan Giants”.
Numerous musicians such as Ray Charles, Goran Bregovic and Bijelo Dugme recorded there in the studios' hay day. Thousands of other recordings were produced by rock groups such as Lebisol and Big Band/Jazz artists as well as the then-popular Macedonian Radio Orchestra. In total, over 5000 recordings were produced in the original studios over the final quarter of the 20th century.
